Introducing SZEpalab – the Building Materials and Structural Testing Laboratory of Széchenyi István University

The Building Materials and Structural Testing Laboratory of Széchenyi István University (SZEpalab) is one of the most experienced and best-equipped construction material testing institutions in the Northwestern Hungary region.
The laboratory offers more than 300 types of standardized tests for construction industry stakeholders, supporting quality assurance, development, and compliance processes.

Decades of Professional Foundation

The laboratory’s activities date back to the 1970s.
Even then, its predecessors played an important role in materials testing education, scientific research, and supporting engineering practice.
The knowledge and experience accumulated over the years still define our operations today and ensure the professional reliability of our testing services.

Quality Confirmed by Accreditation

The laboratory is accredited according to the MSZ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard in four specialized fields.
This internationally recognized standard guarantees that all tests are reliable, accurate, and properly documented.

The accredited testing areas include:

  • Testing of fresh and hardened concrete
  • Mechanical testing of steel and other metal structures
  • Physical evaluation of wood, ceramics, and composite materials
  • Performance assessment of thermal and waterproofing systems
  • Analysis of railway structures, track components, and substructure materials

These tests are suitable for examining new products, assessing the condition of existing structures, and preparing compliance documentation for construction projects.
